In 2016, Nike hosted an electrifying running event, Nike+ Run, designed to bring together runners from various backgrounds and levels. The event embraced cutting-edge digital solutions to streamline the registration process and enhance participant engagement. To achieve this, XMTN developed an advanced QR Code-based registration system, ensuring a smooth and efficient check-in experience while integrating an automated attendance and door prize system.
Nike+ Run was unlike conventional running events. Rather than traditional sign-ups, Nike distributed digital invitations embedded with unique QR Codes to selected participants. These QR Codes served as digital passes, eliminating the need for physical tickets or manual check-ins.
XMTN’s role was to build a robust QR Code scanning system that could seamlessly process participant entries in real-time. Upon arrival, runners simply scanned their QR Codes at designated checkpoints. The system instantly verified and recorded their attendance, ensuring a hassle-free check-in process.
Beyond registration, XMTN implemented an automated attendance system that logged participants’ entries into a centralized database. This system not only streamlined participant tracking but also powered the event’s door prize mechanics. The data collected from scanned QR Codes enabled Nike to randomly select lucky winners, ensuring a transparent and engaging reward system for attendees.
The integration of QR technology brought several advantages to the event:
Nike+ Run 2016 showcased how technology can elevate event experiences by creating seamless, interactive, and efficient processes. With XMTN’s expertise in digital registration systems, the event set a new benchmark for innovation in sports activations.
This project reinforced XMTN’s commitment to bridging technology with event experiences, empowering brands to connect with their audiences in smarter, more interactive ways. As digital solutions continue to evolve, QR Code-based activations remain a powerful tool in delivering immersive brand experiences.
