In the ever-evolving landscape of consumer engagement, British American Tobacco (BAT) sought an interactive, data-driven approach to introduce new flavors to their audience. DLAB, a cutting-edge sampling program, was developed as a journey ecosystem where users could explore and experience new flavors through a seamless digital and physical interaction.
XMTN, in collaboration with DSGN, designed and developed this automated sampling system, seamlessly integrating WhatsApp, QR Code authentication, custom vending technology, and personalized laser engraving to deliver a unique and immersive brand experience.
Step 1: Registration & QR Code Generation
Users begin their journey by registering through WhatsApp or email, ensuring accessibility and ease of use. Upon successful registration, they receive a unique QR Code, which serves as their digital access pass.
Step 2: Flavor Selection via Smart Kiosks
At the event, users scan their QR Code at interactive kiosks, unlocking the next step of their journey. The system then allows them to select three flavors from a variety of available options. Once chosen, the flavors are automatically dispensed through a custom-built vending system.
Step 3: Data Collection & User Preference Insights
Each user’s flavor preference and engagement data are captured in real time, allowing BAT to analyze market trends and consumer behavior for future product development.
Step 4: Rating & Reward System
After sampling, users are encouraged to rate the flavors they tried. As a reward for participation, they can scan their QR Code again to access an exclusive customization station.
Step 5: Personalized Electric Lighter Engraving
To enhance the brand experience, users can design their own electric lighter using pre-set templates and even add their name or a custom message. Their design data is then sent to a laser engraving booth, where their personalized lighter is produced within minutes—a memorable takeaway from the experience.
